What is Docker, and why is it required by OTbase Asset Center?

(Note: This does not apply to you if you use the SaaS version of OTbase Asset Center)

Docker is a popular container platform that is used by OTbase Asset Discovery. You can learn more about Docker here. In order to install OTbase Asset Discovery, you must already have Docker installed and running. Installing Docker requires a Linux host environment.

OTbase Asset Discovery uses Docker because it makes deployment much easier since you have to mess less with version conflicts etc. Compared to a full Virtual Machine, the Docker container is much more efficient because it saves you to always install a full deployment environment when installing updates.
