As your OT asset inventory fills up, you can increase usability dramatically by grouping items. For example, if your users are looking at several hundred entries in the network inventory, wouldn't it be beneficial if they could spot safety networks, or networks with realtime characteristics, right away? And maybe even filter particularly for such networks? This is what the grouping opportunities in this article are all about.
Location groups
A location group allows you to express certain characteristics of locations such as "server room" or "offshore platform". In order to define location groups, go to INVENTORY then EXTENDED and finally select the Location Groups tab.
After you have defined your location groups, you can assign a group to any location in INVENTORY and then LOCATIONS. Select the location you want to edit and click Edit. Open the drop-down in Location Group and select the location group you want to assign.
When you open the location profile, the Location Group will be exposed in the General section, and the color code will appear below the location icon.
More importantly, the location group color code will also be used in network topology diagrams for the location.
Network groups
Now that we have discussed location groups you can already imagine how it works for networks. Pretty much the same! You can learn more about network group definition and assignment here.
