The configuration UI for OTbase Discovery is highly context sensitive.
In the object table on the left you select which object you want to configure. Depending on the selected object and its characteristics, the items you can configure in the right pane will change.
Important configuration details for the node level
The top level entry in the object table is what we call the node level. Here you can set configuration details for the Discovery node as a whole, and also default credentials for all networks.
The most important configuration details that you must focus on are the node name, the node location ID, and the address or hostname of OTbase Inventory (for automatic upload of discovery results).
The default for the node name will often be the hostname of your computer. You should change this to something more intuitive.
You can ignore the location ID for now, but you must set it properly before uploading discovery results to OTbase Inventory. Details for this will be discussed later in the Onboarding Program.
Important configuration details for networks
When you select a network in the object table, you can configure discovery details for the endpoints in that network in the right pane. Here are the most important settings.
Set a Name for the network that will allow your users to get an idea of what the network does. If you don't set a name, the network's IP address will be used as a default. Obviously, your users will be able to make much more sense out of HMI network for line 4, for example, than out of 192.168.10.0/24.
You can set a Location ID for a network if you want to assign the devices in that network to a different location than the default location that you have set at the node level. Again, locations will be discussed in more detail.
Check the Export box for networks that shall be exported automatically to OTbase Inventory.
The remainder of entries allows you to specify the protocols that you want to use for probing devices in this network.
Save your settings
Don't forget to save your configuration settings by clicking the Set button at the bottom of the right pane.
