OTbase Discovery Manager is a management tool that allows you to manage a fleet of Asset Discovery nodes remotely. It also supports various bulk operations for multiple Asset Discovery nodes in one operation. It includes its own Asset Discovery configuration client for remote configuration of Asset Discovery nodes, thereby saving you the hassle of connecting to a remote client via RDP first. Finally, Discovery Manager gives you an instant overview about the health of your discovery nodes.
In short, Discovery Manager will save you lots of time if you are running a large number of Asset Discovery nodes.
Note: that you can also configure OTbase Asset Discovery programmatically using a REST API. Discovery Manager is designed for interactive re-configuration of multiple Asset Discovery nodes, whereas the REST API is designed for programmatic orchestration of a large number of nodes.
Product architecture
Discovery Manager is a Windows application that you can install on any Windows machine where you want to use it. Usually deployment is limited to workstations of administrators who are in charge of, and authorized to, monitor and manage the Asset Discovery fleet.
Concurrent use is supported, and you can even run the local Asset Discovery configuration client at the same time when one or more Discovery Managers access a given Asset Discovery node.
Network access paths
Discovery Manager needs to be able to reach all Asset Discovery nodes that you want to manage using a TCP connection. Since typically Discovery Manager will not run in the same network as your Asset Discovery nodes, it has to be assured that routing tables and firewall settings support these connections.
Discovery Manager uses the same network interface as Asset Discovery, which are TCP ports 44461 (OTbase Discovery) and 44462 (OTbase Discovery Agent) by default. You can change the port number if it is problematic in your environment, but nevertheless any port that you use must be accessible by Discovery Manager.
Discovery Proxy
With v14.9, Discovery Manager has has an integrated proxy service that is able to receive export data from all Asset Discovery nodes and forward them to an OTbase Inventory instance.
